We took a close look at the snow conditions on Thursday afternoon. There were several bare spots on many of the runs and the snow cover near the lift terminals, both top and bottom, was very thin. Considering that the temps rarely got below freezing at night and hovered in the 60’s most every day, we felt that snow would not be good enough to remain open for the weekend. With these above normal weather conditions, we have decided to close for the season–the earliest close since we opened as Norway Mountain back in 1993.

For those of you who have any discount ticket vouchers, Media tickets or ValPak and RtownShopper coupons, we will honor those at their full value from next season’s opening day to December 24. We apologize for the short season and hope you can join us again next year.

Indianhead Season End Discount

Our friends at Indianhead Mountain in Wakefield have offered Norway season pass holders a lift ticket deal where you can buy 1 lift ticket at the regular price and get the second day for free. Make sure you bring along your Norway pass card to get the discount. Get there before Big Snow Country turns into the Big Puddle!

Season Pass

2010-2011 Season Pass’s are on sale now! Lot’s of great new benefits this year plus our Ski Free in March deal for new pass holders. Check out all the details and pricing on our Season Pass page. Order your pass online.

Lanterns are placed along the entire one-mile loop for a unique and memorable skiing experience. Stop about halfway around the loop at the warming shelter where the park naturalist will have a campfire going. This trail has an “easy” difficulty rating; however, skiing at night is always a challenge.

“This place is incredible in the winter,” said Park Interpreter Bob Wild. “What better way to see the park and experience winter, than by participating in one of these naturalist-lead programs.”

Lantern Light Cross-Country Skiing: Remaining outings are 20 and 27 from 6:30-9 p.m.

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is located on the south shore of Lake Superior near Silver City in Ontonagon County.

This program may be cancelled due to weather. To inquire about cancellations call 906-885-5206.

For more information on winter recreation opportunities at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, call 906-885-5275 or visit www.michigan.gov/porkies.

All motor vehicles entering a Michigan State Park or Recreation Area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

Deceivingly beautiful, yet the big lake’s unrelenting fury has earned her the reputation of being the most treacherous of the Great Lakes. Throughout the museum gallery visitors see dramatic shipwreck legends come to life. Artifacts and exhibits tell stories of sailors and ships who braved the waters of Superior and those who were lost to her menacing waves. The bell of the famous Edmund Fitzgerald is displayed in the museum as a memorial to her lost crew. Whitefish Point marks the critical turning point for all ships entering or leaving the lake. The waters that extend west from Whitefish Point along the 80-mile stretch of rugged shoreline have earned the ominous title, “Lake Superior’s Shipwreck Coast.”
